The Club World Cup semi-final wasn’t just about who advanced to the final – it was a symbolic passing of the torch. As Chelsea prepares to welcome Estêvão Willian next summer, Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira has opened up emotionally about the Brazilian wonderkid’s future in London.

Speaking to the press after Palmeiras' 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in Philadelphia, Ferreira described Estêvão in deeply personal terms:

> “He's my son. I have two daughters, but he is my son. I spoke with Maresca, he is a nice coach. He bought an amazing player, but more than this, you got an amazing person. You need to take care of him. Embrace him.”

Ferreira’s words underline the emotional weight of Estêvão's departure and the magnitude of Chelsea's gain. The teenage forward has been one of Brazil’s brightest young stars, dazzling with his close control, fearless dribbling and maturity well beyond his age. At just 17, Estêvão already carries the aura of a player born for the big stage.

Abel Ferreira, who has nurtured him at Palmeiras, warned that adaptation won’t be immediate:

> “He will make mistakes at the beginning, for sure, but he is an amazing player with a lot of skills. He can win one game on his own — with the dribbling, the shots.”

The Palmeiras coach also offered a light-hearted but heartfelt piece of fatherly advice:

> “I told him the sun doesn't appear as much in England. The night comes early. But for sure, Chelsea have all the conditions to help him because he is a fantastic player.”

Estêvão’s performances at the Club World Cup, including being named Superior Player of the Match against his future club Chelsea, have only intensified the excitement among the Stamford Bridge faithful. With his arrival set for 2025, Chelsea fans are already imagining what he could do in tandem with Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernández and Moises Caicedo.

Abel Ferreira’s emotional farewell isn't just about a player moving on — it’s about watching a prodigy take the next step into global football. And Chelsea, it seems, have signed more than just a baller. They’ve signed a gem with a soul, a young man groomed in love and belief, ready to write his own story in Blue.
